Camera back transmitter

Common questions and answers to help you learn more about the Real Freedom Camera Back Transmitter and solve any issues that you may encounter. You should also refer to Camera back transmitter troubleshooting or 4K camera back transmitter troubleshooting for other information.

How do I attach a camera back transmitter to a camera?
Use an appropriate BSI camera back to attach the camera back transmitter to the camera. Alternatively, use the threaded mounting holes on each side of the digital module to mount the unit.
What do the LEDs on the camera back transmitter mean?
Use the LED indicators on the camera back transmitter to help you to determine whether the transmitter is operating correctly. For more information, refer to HD camera back transmitter status LEDs or 4K camera back transmitter status LEDs.
The camera type/ID indicator on the main configuration page is red or amber, what does this mean?
If the camera number and type indicator is red, the transmitter is not seeing its camera number. If it is amber, the refresh rate of controls is low for that camera.
Why is the screen dark and there is no display?
If the screen is dark and there is no display, touch all four quadrants of the screen within one second; trace a U or X pattern on the display to unlock the screen.
No video is displaying on the receiver's screen, what is wrong?
If no video displays on the receiver’s screen when the camera is operating, you should initially check that the transmit and receive frequencies on the receiver and the camera back transmitter are the same. For more video troubleshooting information, see Video issues.
How do I configure a camera back transmitter?
Use the touch-enabled color LCD to configure the camera back transmitter and view status information. To configure the camera back transmitter, you will need the following information: Transmit and camera control frequencies and the camera type and camera number from the camera’s control panel. For more information, refer to HD camera back transmitter configuration or 4K camera back transmitter configuration.
How do I change the transmit power?
Move the TX Power slider on the main configuration page to change the transmit power.
Note: Transmit power directly impacts signal range. The more power, the longer the range. Increasing the power can also make the signal more stable, but keep in mind it can have a negative effect on battery life. If the power is too low, the camera range may be insufficient resulting in loss of RF signal and video image.
If I change the transmit frequency, do I also need to change the receive frequency?
Yes, the transmit frequency set on the camera back transmitter and the receive frequency set on the receiver must be the same.
How do I know if the camera back transmitter is fitted with a low profile I/O module?
The camera back transmitter’s I/O module provides connectors for power, control, and audio. The low-profile I/O module uses LEMO audio connectors rather than XLR-3 (F) connectors.
Can I change the RF module?
Yes, you can change the Real Freedom Camera Back Transmitter’s RF module to operate in a different frequency band. Refer to Change an RF module for instructions.
